The fly muscles lab
at Dalhousie University Biology Department Nova Scotia, Canada

We study muscle development and repair using Drosophila as a model organism. Our main question is how the sarcomeres form. To test muscle function, we use a combination of genetic tools, microscopy, and behavioural assays.
Image. A confocal microscopy image of the indirect flight muscles of a Drosophila. Actin filaments are stained with fluorescent phalloidin (green), and the Z-discs are marked with Zasp52-mCherry, a red fluorescent protein (magenta).
